Overview
This manufacturer of high-purity hydrocarbons, specialty gases, and custom blends prices each product per customer — with every price influenced by raw material costs, freight rates, shipping location, and a range of customer-specific adders. Monthly pricing updates had to be calculated, assembled into price sheet documents, and distributed to customers. The existing process depended on Excel formulas that were difficult to maintain as pricing rules evolved.
Challenge
The pricing model was genuinely complex. Each customer's price for each product reflected a unique combination of raw material inputs, freight market adjustments, blending fees, transfer costs, and percentage uplifts. Raw material costs changed monthly. Some products were blends requiring multi-step calculations. And even when two customers ordered the same product, their final prices could differ significantly based on freight and adder rules.
Beyond calculation, the business needed to generate polished, customer-facing price sheet documents each month — covering billing location, shipping locations, product pricing, freight treatment, and ship-to notes. The manual process couldn't reliably keep pace with monthly updates.
Solution: OmniStudio-Driven Pricing Calculation and Document Generation
Mountain Point implemented a Salesforce-based solution with OmniStudio OmniScript at the core of the pricing and document generation workflow. The monthly pricing database was imported into Salesforce, where pricing records, customer alignments, rules, freight conditions, and adders were centrally maintained.
A batch job identified accounts flagged for price sheet generation and initiated the OmniScript-driven calculation sequence. OmniScript evaluated all configured pricing components dynamically — pulling current raw material costs, applying the appropriate pricing rules, and computing customer-specific product prices without relying on a single fixed formula.
Once pricing was calculated, OmniStudio merged the results into a generated price sheet document stored on the account record — tailored to each customer and ready for distribution. The architecture was designed to support ongoing updates: whether pricing inputs arrived manually, by file import, or via integration, the system could recalculate and regenerate documents accordingly.
